How We Recommend Starting Music at Player 1
We strongly recommend that children in this aged 4-6 begin
with Music Exploration before starting an instrument.
Our program builds on essential musical foundations such as rhythm, listening, co-ordination, and confidence playing and participating in a group learning environment.
These skills make the transition into instrument learning smoother and
more enjoyable, particularly for piano.
We offer group instrument programs for children aged 5 +.
For baby and toddler lessons, on Tuesdays and Fridays email us.
Mid term enrolments may be accepted depending on readiness, focus,
and confidence in a group setting.

Piano
Our approach is designed specifically for children. We prioritise listening skills, rhythmic understanding, confidence and enjoyment at the piano before expecting students to read or interpret complex notation.
Tiny Tunes Ukulele
From holding the instrument and strumming simple rhythms to learning chords and reading music with our colourful note system, students build real musical ability while having fun.
Singing
A gentle, confidence-building introduction to singing. Children develop vocal awareness, listening skills, and musical confidence in a fun, encouraging group environment.

A Joyful First Step
Our Music Exploration program is designed for children aged 4-6 who are ready to discover their musical voice. Through games, singing, and creative play, kids build confidence and a strong foundation for future instrumental study.

Building Blocks of Music
Students learn the essentials of rhythm, beat, and melody in fun, age-appropriate ways. From interactive rhythm games to simple group compositions, every session develops musicality and teamwork.

Fun, Social, and Supportive
Classes create a safe and inspiring space where children can try new things, experiment with sound, and shine. It’s the perfect bridge for kids not quite ready for private lessons but eager to start their musical journey.

About or Music Exploration Classes Ages 4-6
One-year musicianship foundation program.
Classes run on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 3:15pm or Saturdays at 10:00am for 30 minutes each week and cost just $36 per class.
Program overview
Music Exploration builds core musicianship for children aged 4-6.
Across the year, students develop rhythm, pitch, listening, coordination, early notation and ensemble skills. Classes are playful and structured, and prepare children for future instrumental study such as piano, guitar/ukulele or voice. The program helps children experience music as something they can move to, sing, read, understand and share. By year’s end, most students are ready to transition into Piano, Guitar, Ukulele or Voice Classes.
Program structure
• One-year course across four terms
• Terms 1–3: all run for 12 weeks, Term 4 runs for 10 weeks
• Annual concert performance in Term 3
• Informal in-class showcase in the final week of Term 4
• Progress tracked via iClassPro Skill Trees
End-of-year learning outcomes
By the end of the program, students can:
• Keep a steady beat on their own and with a group
• Match basic pitch and echo short melodic patterns
• Read and perform simple rhythms
• Recognise core symbols and terms
• Follow cues, listen to others and contribute confidently to group music-making
• Demonstrate readiness for beginner group instrumental lessons

About our Piano Classes

A Fun First Step into Piano
Perfect for beginners, our 30-minute small group lessons balance structure, creativity, and play. Using the renowned Piano Safari method, children develop rhythm, technique, and musical expression in a supportive, engaging environment.

Step-by-Step Progression
Students begin with posture and simple tunes, then progress naturally through Piano Safari Levels 1.1 to 1.4 across four terms. Along the way, they build sight-reading skills, confidence, and a lifelong love of music.

Supportive and Inclusive
Lessons are designed for all learning styles, with small groups (4–6 students) that encourage collaboration and creativity without pressure. Private lessons are available for children who prefer one-on-one learning.

We Recommend Music Exploration
For most children aged 4-6, we strongly recommend completing Music Exploration before starting piano lessons.
Music Exploration develops the underlying skills that instrumental learning depends on: steady beat, listening, coordination, impulse control, turn-taking and comfort in a group learning environment. Children experience music through movement, rhythm, singing and creative play before being asked to focus on an instrument.
When students begin learning an instrument for the first time without these foundations, lessons can quickly become effortful or frustrating. Fingers, eyes, ears and attention are all being asked to work at once, often before a child is developmentally ready.
Students who complete Music Exploration typically transition into piano with greater confidence, focus and musical understanding. They are more relaxed at the instrument and progress more smoothly through the early levels.
Music Exploration is not compulsory. However, for younger beginners or children new to structured music learning, it provides a strong and supportive starting point.
