RHYTHM WORKSHOP - ALL AGES

WEDNESDAY 15TH JULY 1-4PM

What is rhythm? Rhythm can be explained as the timing of events; of musical sounds and silences that occur over time. The steps of a dance, the meter of spoken language and unites us all. There's so much to explore about rhythm in this workshop by Cain, our resident percussion teacher. He will go back to basics to explain how beats are measured in tempo and how they are written as a time signature.

There's something for everyone in this workshop; there's no need to have prior knowledge of the drums or music theory.

Each child will have their own Percussion instrument including:

• Guiro with scraper

• Metal shaker

• Maracas

• Tambourines

• Claves

• Agogo with beater

• Woodblocks with beaters

• Castanets

• Triangles

As well as bongos, snare drums and a drum kit.

Students will also explore the elements of beat and rhythm, hand techniques, echo & response games and solo turns.

This workshop is non-competitive, and all-inclusive and remember there are no wrong notes! Activities are designed to be fun, easy, mindful and educational. Children’s’ diverse and unique personalities are celebrated so that each child can feel comfortable expressing themselves.

All participants are entitled to free play in the arcade after the workshop.

PIANO & MUSIC THEORY COURSE

WED 15TH JULY

PRICE: $75

Research suggests the best way to teach music is through listening, copying, singing and creating well before anything to do with reading and writing.

It’s the same way that we learn to speak our native language; you’d never think of teaching a child to read and write before they can speak!

This workshop is a chance to introduce your child to Piano and basic Music Theory in an easy, engaging and fun way which will have your child playing with immediate results.

The course will cover the following:

  • Basic Music Theory including reading notes and rhythm to prepare your your child for any instrument they may endeavour at school or privately;

  • Fundamentals of Basic Accompaniment Chord Progressions so your child can sing and play along with their favourite pop song;

  • How to learn to play Melody by singing the lyrics and using their ear to work out the melody and how to play chords in their left hand using shapes and patterns and

  • Basic Blues Improvisation using 12 Bar Blues Progression.

WHAT TO BRING: BYO snack and drink or purchase from the cafe during the break.
